BIRDWATCHING TOUR ON THE NEVADO DEL RUIZ ROAD, TERMALES DEL RUIZ HOTEL. The Páramos (moorlands) are mountain ecosystems that develop above the Andean forests, at altitudes that can be higher than 3,000 meters above sea level. They have a cold climate all year round, and their volcanic soils are usually very fertile. The special characteristics of these ecosystems gave rise to unique species such as the Frailejón, an important native plant that helps to create water springs. It is the habitat of the puma, deer, tapir, Andean condor, among many other species. In our tour we will go up to 4,000 m.a.s.l. in search of the “chivito de paramo” and visit the Termales del Ruiz Hotel where the hummingbirds of the paramo are the protagonists. The birds that we will look for in this tour are: Buffy helmetcrest, Oxypogon stuebelii / Black-thighed puffleg, Eriocnemis derbyi / Golden breasted puffleg, Eriocnemis mosquera / Rainbow-bearded Thornbill, Chalcostigma herrani / Great sapphirewing, Pterophanes cyanopterus / Golden-crowned Tanager, Iridosornis rufivertex.
